More than just...???
What makes something more valuable? How costly it is. its quality? Of course, these give things a certain value. But what makes it precious? Priceless?
We all have things in our lives that we value much more than it's actual worth. Something that's close to your heart and priceless to you, but for others, it might be just a piece of sh*t. If you don't have such things in your life, I'm sorry, but you are living wrong!
As much as I hate being a materialistic person who values life based on possessions and can't see past that, there are certain meaningless things I hold on to. for example, a school bag that I used in 10th grade. Nothing special happened with that bag; it's certainly not made up of gold. I still have it after 7 years, and it's still in usable condition after I repair it whenever needed. And at this point, if any sane person has that, they will throw it out. It's not like I can't afford a better one; I bought many other bags after that and threw out many. But with this particular bag, I can't rationally explain why I hold on to it. I can't understand why it's more than just a piece of cloth with zips that helps me carry my books. Perhaps it's because it reminds me of the person I was at that time, remembering the end of a carefree childhood.
I was watching a Netflix series called You. It's about a guy who will literally kill someone in the name of love. It beautifully shows the difference between love and obsession. It got me thinking about what makes a person more than just a person to someone. Is that love? Or is it obsession? I believe there is a very thin line between them, not to mention that it is also blurry. It often makes it difficult for us to see clearly. Sometimes one could jump between sides; after all, we are humans and like to own things and control them. Owning and having control over materialistic things is acceptable, but when it comes to other humans, does it work the same way? It's crazy because girls loved him; they loved how obsessed that guy is with them. And that guy killed the girls who cheated on him after treating them like queens and killing others for them. Maybe monogamy is just created by insecure humans to control the other person, who is more than just a person to them, and keep them for themselves. It's not like I support polygamy because I am insecure and a hopeless romantic. To quote from this series, "Things I'm Willing to Do for Love," wow, it gave me a whole new perspective on love. Love can not only make a person a monster and a monster a person, but also turn a piece of crappy chocolate cover into a diamond that one will cherish for the rest of their life.
Oh, and remember, it's okay to have something that is more than just a thing to you!
